Goose my pig, groundhog!

February 1, 2019
Well hello there!  It is good to be in contact with you once more. As I believe you are more alike me than not, I am sure you are also feeling more peppy than usual.  And why not?!  It’s a bit warmer outside here than it has been for awhile.  It is also Groundhog Day Eve, and the year of the earth pig is rapidly approaching.  So what does all of this mean?  Well, I don’t know.  But I am happy to predict a slight increase in prosperity, social responsibility, and thoughtfulness.  I could tell by this harmonious planetary alignment I witnessed this a.m., back when it was still pretty cold.
Verily, when Jupiter is in ascendancy over Venus who is resting upon the moon, the groundhog will embraceth the pig.

I haven't celebrated Groundhog Day much lately, but back when I wore a younger man's clothes (which I am still wearing) I made it out to the Groundhog Prom where these guys often can be found laying down some righteous grooves.

It is also nearly the moon when the geese come home, but a gaggle or 2 may have gotten a jump on those others.  Take a gander at this!

Well I hope you are ready for some Super Bowling, which is also coming up this weekend?  This event is sure to be quite bike-oriented based on these findings.  That's right, the Gronkhog is the great grandson of Iggy Gronkowski, a famous bicyclist who competed in the 1924 Paris Olympics!

Although I am hoping for a Rams victory, I like the Pats too because they are getting almost as old as me!  So let’s all get ol' piggy with it!
See you over on the other side of the moon cycle!

Jolly masking days!

December 6, 2016
Hello Decemberists.  I trust your will is good.  As is mine, good lady, as is mine.  Not only that, but I’ve recently made some letters on the back of my jacket to celebrate the Yule.  Harken ye!

Yep.  Looks like a junior high art project.  Would you believe I drew and cut out those letters all by myself!?  Huzzah to me!

Here is the crowning touch!

I am pretty sure everyone now loves me almost as much as I love me!

Also here are some cold weather tips you may ignore/scoff at as you see fit.

1.     1.  Keep your face warm.

I guess that’s just one tip.  I tend to do it by looking down at my front tyre so that my fuzzy noggin blocks the breeze for a bit.  Just don’t crash into something whilst tyre-gazing!  Please!  If you do, that is funny that you did that, but sad too.  Although I enjoy my tyre-gazing in brief spurts, it is also a bit vertigo-inducing, which is fun too.  Also, depending on wind direction, a mask (such as a balaclava) might be just right for you and your pet(s).

The bad part is your safety glasses/spectacles might fog up.  But, I have found that if the wind is blowing in your mask-ensconced face and you are breathing out through your mouth in a strategically downwards direction – wallah!  No fogginess!  The only possible alternative I’ve tried was ski goggles, but those had some tint and were too dark, like watching too many episodes of BreakingBad or Boardwalk Empire (2 new television programs that just finished their last season a few years or so ago that I have nearly completed viewing) in a row.

What is the latest news with you?  I hear that sister!  If only they understood us and our ilk!

Well, as for me, I was ill for a non-consecutive fortnight.  I hope your health hath been better.  The second week I may have stricken myself ill by guzzling part of a Camelbak’s worth of water whilst enjoying the invigorating trails at Tranquility Park here in our town of Oh-me-ho-ho-ho!  It was great!  There are now jumps everywhere, which I have now begun to enjoy a bit (just the small to medium to moderate ones, thank you kindly THOR crew).  Then I was sick for a while and refrained from exercising ye Olde Bastard.  Whilst lying abed with my leeches, I happened to examine my tube, Camelbak tube that is.  Its innards appeared a bit fuzzy and/or the lighting was bad.  Although too sickly to snap a worthy photographic representation, I did manage to  brush the tube out with a trumpet cleaning brush, pour some bleach in there and get it all cleansed.  Now I am planning on placing both of my bladders into the freezer at my earliest convenience to curtail the vigorous moldiness of my younger days.

As you may know, there is a bicycle sale at your local bicycle purveyor.  Here is an example -

There is also the annual Bike De Lights on December 17 here in town.  I have not yet attended one of these curiosities, but I intend to forthwith.

Well, I hope you are taking good care of yourself and your bicycle(s) unlike this sad, but remorseful, sack.  Grab a sack and get merry, y’all!  Whooo-ho-ho!

Winter of my content

February 21, 2013
Well I'm glad to be back home.  I went away for awhile to find my place in the sun.  My place in the sun turned out to be sunny, but also dusty, as shown here.
Hotel window sill/shelf, closed yet dusty.

I also saw this sweet-ass chariot of the gods lounging nonchalantly in the lobby of the gas station near the airport in Amarillo.
The blade attachment for mowing your lawn is optional, but highly recommended.

While in this part of the world, I of course made it a point to stop by the Blackwater Draw Museum, where I observed some of the Clovis points fashioned by the Clovis people around 9,500 years before present (B.P.).  Although the Clovis people did not use bicycles (as far as we know), they were supplanted by the fierce Folsom people who rode about on what may have been primitive roller skates.

Times have changed in the area formerly inhabited by the Clovis people.  A forested area is now a desert.  So, also, do times change for we, the USian, et al, peoples.  Returning from a sojourn often makes me even more sentimental than usual.  I rode past a place that had recently changed from this

to this.

Yes, the times, they are, ch-ch-changing.

And then on my way home the same place looked like this!
I'll give you a hint.  It's a restaurant.  Down under-styley, mate!  Crikey, it's the Outback!

Whoa!

I noticed it was snowy, but I just had to get out for a spin.

My time on a pair of Folsom roller skates had just not quite been as satisfying as my trusty time aboard the Old Bastard.  While cautiously navigating the slopey suburban streets, I heard someone say, "Why is someone riding their bicycle?"  I looked about curiously for this moron, only to realize it was possible that I was the subject of this tirade!  I would have responded, "Why are you talking about someone riding their bicycle instead of riding your bicycle?" or something equally bland, but I was too busy keeping my wheels underneath me.  Plus snappy retorts are not my forte.  Lengthy rambling, as you may already have gathered, is.  So grab yourself a nice toddy and peruse, or not, as you wish.  It is kind of wintery now, but I hear there are some springy events coming up.

Last year I enjoyed the inaugural Empyrean 5K Run at Camp Carol Joy Holling, and they are doing it again this year!  Yes, March 2 is the day for this hilly bundle of trail-running excitement/adventure.

There is also the usual Blarney Stone 5K on St. Paddy's Day, as well as the Leprechaun Chase [sold out] (or some such).  This event pits boys versus girls in the dream we all dream of - the world series of love.  Sort of.  The lithe lassies get a head start, then the wiry lads have a go at overtaking the lassies.  The triumphant gender (individual winner's gender) gets free drinks!  Ay!  Sounds like a pot a' gold ta this laddie/lassie (depending on who triumphs).  I will be prepared for either eventuality (possibly due to my tenure as a boy/girl scout as an impressionable youth/youthette).

I would ramble incoherently for quite awhile longer, but I just picked up Premium Rush from my neighborhood  video dispensing robot/friend.  Oh yes!  I think I've finally found a place in the sun (in my basement on a snowy night)!  Yabba-dabba-do-do-dooty!
